PRP Therapy in Ireland
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy uses concentrated growth factors from your own blood to stimulate tissue regeneration, heal injuries, and rejuvenate skin and hair. It is widely available across Ireland for both medical and aesthetic applications.
About PRP Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy involves drawing a small amount of the patient's blood, processing it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and growth factors, and then injecting this concentrated plasma into the target area. Platelets contain hundreds of growth factors that stimulate cell proliferation, collagen synthesis, and tissue remodelling. PRP is used for musculoskeletal injuries (tendons, ligaments, joints), hair loss restoration, and facial skin rejuvenation.
In Ireland, PRP is offered by orthopaedic clinics, sports medicine practitioners, aesthetic clinics, and hair restoration specialists. For musculoskeletal applications, ultrasound-guided injections ensure precise delivery to the damaged tissue. For aesthetic uses, PRP is often combined with microneedling to enhance absorption. The treatment uses the patient's own blood, minimising the risk of allergic reactions or rejection. A course of three to six treatments at four to six week intervals is typically recommended for optimal results.
Key Benefits
- Uses your own blood, eliminating risk of allergic reaction
- Stimulates natural collagen production for skin rejuvenation
- Promotes hair follicle regeneration and thickness
- Accelerates healing of tendon, ligament, and joint injuries
- Minimal downtime with a walk-in, walk-out procedure
- Results continue to improve over several months as tissue remodels
What to Expect
A small amount of blood (typically 10-30ml) is drawn from your arm, similar to a standard blood test. The blood is placed in a centrifuge for 10 to 15 minutes to separate and concentrate the platelets. The PRP is then injected into the treatment area using fine needles. For facial treatments, a topical numbing cream is applied beforehand. For joint or tendon injections, ultrasound guidance may be used. The entire process takes 45 to 60 minutes. You may experience mild swelling or redness for a day or two.
